Well, I am a coffee lover but not an addict. Yes, once in my life, I was hooked with coffee blends. When I was still working in the city, I consumed 6 to 8 cups a day. I usually ordered cappuccinos, espresso, americano, latte, and mocha. Nowadays, I only drink 2 to 3 cups a day and I like to brew my own coffee. Last December, when I rummaged in one of the warehouse stores in Manila, i found a treasure - a Stovetop Coffee Percolator!
A coffee percolator is a type of pot used to brew coffee. It works by sending the boiling water upwards, through a stem or tube into the perforated basket spewing hot water over the coffee grounds and dripping back down into the pot. The rest of the water at the bottom is meanwhile forced up the stem, causing this whole cycle to repeat continually. For complete description and brewing process, check this link http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coffee_percolator.

How it works?...Well, fill the pot with the desired quantity of water. Add the coarse-ground coffee into the basket. It is important that the water level be below the bottom of the coffee basket. Then, cover the pot and place it over a stove.
When the temperature of the water approaches boiling point, the "perking" action (the characteristic spurting sound the pot makes) stops, and the coffee is ready for drinking. The glass knob helps you to see the changing color of the brew and coffee lovers will know when their brew is strong enough.
Morning coffee is ready...
Greeting the sunrise with my favorite meal - freshly brewed espresso, scrambled egg and bread toast with butter & mixed berries! |
Nothing really beats a freshly brewed espresso. The satisfaction when my coffee is properly brewed, pleasant aroma and sweet taste. Oh, coffee is love and remember the saying...a cup of coffee shared with a friend is happiness tasted and time well spent.
